The Sweet Story Behind Our Mazapán French Toast & Café de Olla Pairing 😋
At Casa Canela, we love creating dishes that bring people together through flavor, nostalgia, and tradition. That’s why we’re excited to introduce a brand-new February special that does just that—our
Casa Canela Mazapán French Toast handcrafted by our very own
Chef Luis, but before you take your first bite, let’s take a journey into the rich history behind mazapán a treat that has traveled across the world and found a home in the hearts of many.
The Fascinating Journey of Mazapán
Mazapán, or marzipan as it’s known in Europe, has a story as rich as its flavor. It’s believed to have originated in Persia (modern-day Iran) or the Arab world where almonds and sugar were commonly used in sweets. When the Moors invaded Spain in the 8th century, they brought this delicacy with them, and the Spanish city of Toledo became famous for its own version of marzipan. As this sweet treat spread through Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands each country put its own twist on it. But when Spanish explorers arrived in Mexico
,something incredible happened— the recipe was transformed since almonds were not as readily available in Mexico, locals replaced them with peanuts giving birth to the Mexican-style mazapán that we know and love today.
A Traditional Treat, Reimagined
Inspired by the rich history and irresistible flavor of mazapán, Chef Luis crafted a one-of-a-kind dish that blends old traditions with modern comfort-our Mazapán French Toast this dish features:
✔ Thick, fluffy slices of French toast cooked to golden perfection
